We can finally start telling people our news! Sean and I had Bet and Mark over for dinner on Sunday (Oct. 20) with the intention of Skyping with my parents as they arrived so we could break the news at the same time. Unfortunately, the Capkins were running a little late, so I ended up telling Mom, Dad, and Megan before they arrived. They were so excited to hear the news and loved seeing our little "chicken wing" in the ultrasound pictures. We were just starting to say goodbye as the Capkins came in, and started to greet my parents on the computer screen. My dad, completely unaware, blurted out, "We just heard the good news! Congrats!" to the Capkins. Sean jumped in and said, "Well, we haven't told them yet. Guys, Patty's pregnant." Bet started jumping up and down and squealing with happiness. The parents talked a little longer, and then my parents decided to sign off.
After dinner, we called Dan, Mike, and David and shared the news with each of the bros. Each reaction to finding out they were going to be an uncle was very fitting for their personalities. Dan said, "Again?", Mike said, "That's great!", and David just started hooting and hollering about how this is the best news he's heard all year.
It is still difficult not to tell every single person I meet the great news, but it will be better to share once we are out of the first trimester. Hearing the baby's heartbeat and hearing from the doctor that everything looks good was such a relief and very good signs that the baby will continue to grow and get stronger. We will share the news when we go to Minnesota next weekend to surprise Megan for her 16th birthday... hopefully not taking away too much of her spotlight. And then we'll share the news with Sean's extended families when we get back.
